The Jedi Academy Online was first published on March 27th 2007. This after several trial and errors with other Jedi Sites. The J.A.O. (Jedi Academy Online) was created by Opie Macleod and Jasta T'Kara. The JAO was created based off the work and writing of the Jedi Circle which was also created and written by myself, Opie Macleod. Jasta and I felt that the Jedi Path was not being portrayed in a favorable light.

The problems we saw were a lack of commitment and seriousness. Sure it is hard to have serious commitment when your philosophical ideals are based upon those portrayed in a completely fictional universe. However we felt/feel that the ideals of the Jedi can be made into practical application for simple everyday life. Peace of mind in the face of emotional turmoil, objective thinking amidst chaos, healthy lifestyle (encouraging proper diet and exercise; think about it, when did you see a fat Jedi in Star Wars?)

We felt these were and are reasonable goals. However the Jedi Community has trouble agreeing on these basic ideals. And the online Jedi Community has three major problems. One(1) it is more about achieving rank/title than about honestly living by the Ideological Code of the Jedi. No one cares what you do as long as you have the Jedi Master title to back you up. Two(2) a complete lack of standards and honest training. Everyone wants the Jedi to be an after-school culb, thus no one is willing to say "I am sorry you do not measure up to the basic standards. You are not a Jedi." Mostly because people are terrified that is they took that step, they would be found wanting as well. And Three(3) simple definition. Most people in the Jedi Community will tell you that being a Jedi is whatever you believe that to be. If that is Zen than Jedi equals Zen. If that is Samurai than Jedi equals Samurai. If that is Reiki, if that is sitting on a computer for hours after-school, than that is what the Jedi is. Which is simply not the case (which can be seen in the article Jedi vs. Samurai).

Overall the majority of the Jedi were/are having trouble enough just living by the ideals of the Jedi, let alone passing on those ideals in a professional and logical manner. So with these thoughts in mind Jasta and myself set-up a website where people could learn the truth about the Jedi ideals, philosophy, and lifestyle. And get answers to questions which might not be readily available else where.

The Jedi Academy Online has gone under several changes since that time. And while most of those changes were cosmetic in nature, it reflects the ever-changing, ever-growing philosophy of the Jedi. The Jedi are about growth and improvement. And thus the JAO continually changes, updates and seeks to grow and improve. Providing more resources, lessons, and information than any other site. And more importantly delivering reality and common sense over make-believe and delusions of grandeur.
Welcome to the Jedi Academy Online - Where you can find Jedi Philosophy for everyday life; brought to you by those that live it daily.
